GBA Travel Baseball "Town Hall" Meeting and Travel Reg

Do you have an in-house player who is ready for higher level competition providing them with an increased opportunity to further develop their baseball knowledge and skills?  If so, it is a great time to make the natural progression to play GBA Travel Baseball.  The GBA travel teams (9u-14U) have many success stories through the years – just scroll through the homepage and you will see all the pictures of tournament wins this year.  Travel baseball is a great way to take your player to the next level.

There are many misconceptions about travel baseball with the main concern being time commitment.  What if I told you that most travel baseball teams only play on average 5-10 more games per season than a player playing both in-house and the IHTT (In-House Tournament Team).  A typical travel team will play between 4-6 tournaments per season with most teams playing mainly local Chicago suburb tournaments and possibly one out of town tournament.  It is common to have some weekends off during the season, which doesn't always happen with in-house teams. Also, players have the opportunity to work on their games earlier in the year with winter training facilities available to each team.  Yes, the sessions start in January and most managers make attendance optional until the basketball season concludes sometime in February.

Travel baseball is a great experience and is the logical next step for any player wanting to improve their game.  Once a player participates in travel baseball, you will wonder why you didn't sign them up sooner!.  Also, we invite all who are interested in learning more about our travel program to a “Travel Town Meeting” this Monday, July 20th from 7pm-10pm in the lower level of Old Towne Pub & Grill.  We will hold three 1 hour sessions beginning at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm.

Don’t miss the opportunity to speak with GBA Commissioner Dan McGarry and myself to learn more about GBA Travel Baseball.

And remember that GBA Travel Tryouts for the 2016 Season will take place on August 8-9 at the Geneva High School Baseball Diamonds.  Go to the registration page on the GBA website and register to tryout.  There is no cost and if you will have a conflict with that weekend, we encourage you to register anyways, as arrangements for a separate tryout can be accommodated.

Hope to see you this Monday!

Marklund Fundraiser Update

Members,

On behalf of the GBA and Marklund, I wanted to thank those of you who donated to Marklund for your generosity.  As of this email, the GBA Members, their families and their friends have donated $4,080.00 to Marklund.  As of our May 31, 2015, 11:59 p.m. cutoff time, the top overall team was the Pony Padres who will get the opportunity to not only play a whiffle ball game against the Pony Cardinals (second highest total from Pony) they will get to play a game with the residents of Marklund. Way to go Pony Padres.

Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, the GBA/Marklund Field of Dreams event is being moved from this Saturday, June 6 to Saturday, August 1, 2015.  Between now and then, we ask that you continue to be generous and donate to Marklund.  The GBA\Marklund web page has been reopened to make it easier for you to donate.  This donation page will remain open through August 1, 2015.  If you haven’t done so already, please consider donating to this amazing place.  As the event gets closer we will send out an announcement which will contain the game times and other fun details regarding the event.  We encourage all GBA members, even those not playing in the game, to attend to learn what Marklund is all about.  http://marklund.kintera.org/gba

The other GBA whiffle ball games which will all take place on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Marklund’s Field of Dreams, are as follows:

Pony – Padres ($545.00) v. Cardinals ($100.00)

Major – White Sox ($528.00) v. Athletics ($200.00)

Minor – Cardinals ($125.00) v. Cubs ($115.00)

Mustang – Cubs ($207.00) v. Cardinals ($185.00)

Rookie – Royals ($335.00) v. Pirates ($175.00)

Pioneer – White Sox ($200.00) v. Rookie Cardinals ($75.00)

Congratulations to those teams, players and parents.  Thanks again for your generosity.

Dan McGarry

GBA Commissioner
